Porcelain Inlays and Onlays

In specific cases, porcelain inlays and onlays can be a conservative alternative to dental crowns. Porcelain inlays and onlays are stronger, longer lasting reparative solution to tooth decay or similar damage. These restorations have great advantages from both an esthetic and functional point of view.

Inlays and onlays can treat tooth decay or similar structural damage of such an extent that dental fillings are not sufficient to address the problem. Whereas dental fillings are molded into place within the mouth during a dental visit, inlays and onlays are fabricated indirectly in a dental lab before being fitted and bonded to the damaged tooth by your dentist.

The restoration is considered an “inlay” when the material is bonded within the center of a tooth. Equally, the restoration is considered an “onlay” when the damage requires coverage of one or more cusps of the tooth or full coverage of the biting surface.
