 What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

Sometimes called aesthetic dentistry, cosmetic dentistry can be described as any one or more dental treatments that improve the beauty of your smile. And a beautiful, more alluring smile can be the beginning of a more successful lifestyle for you.

Cosmetic dentistry can include a variety of techniques, from re-contouring the teeth or gums to placing veneers on a number of teeth. Although many general dentists may claim to practice cosmetic dentistry, it is truly an art form taking years of training, education and experience not taught in regular dental schools to master. It is grounded in the healthy enhancement, restoration and maintenance of a customized smile design. To obtain optimal results, it requires the application of advanced scientific techniques, skills, materials, and high tech equipment.

Since patient comfort is a crucial part of our cosmetic dental treatments, our clinical staff and cosmetic dentists go the extra mile to make a visit to the Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry a whole new positive experience. Of course, we offer nitrous oxide, movies, music, and a number of unexpected spa-like amenities, but most importantly "good ol' TLC."

Below are some of the more common cosmetic procedures we routinely perform daily in our office. Just click on any one of them to find out more!

PORCELAIN VENEERS
Porcelain laminate veneers are literally a "shell covering" placed over the teeth to enhance or correct their appearance. Whether to close spaces, increase size, change color or straighten the teeth, veneers are one of the most exciting procedures we provide.

DENTAL CROWNS
Crowns are used to restore both anterior and posterior teeth that have been broken or are at high risk of doing so due to old, over-sized fillings or fractures. There are a variety of materials used to construct these, and by working with the finest laboratories in the country, we are pleased to produce crowns that look and feel like your real teeth.

DENTAL BRIDGES
Bridges are fixed or non-removable prosthesis that are constructed to replace one or more missing teeth. The teeth on either side of the existing space are used to anchor the bridge to restore functionality as well as aesthetics. We are now able to construct beautiful porcelain over metal as well as full porcelain and resin-based bridges to produce the best results for each particular situation.

TOOTH-COLORED FILLINGS
Today's dentistry has allowed us the opportunity to combine beauty as well as strength when filling teeth. This may include removing old amalgam fillings (sometimes called silver or mercury fillings) that have darkened and become ugly over time. We take pride in "restoring" teeth to as close to their original strength and but with dramatically improved appearance using composite resins and ceramics.

TEETH WHITENING
Bleaching teeth can be one of the easiest, yet, most gratifying procedures we perform for patients in our office. We are pleased to offer different choices for whitening procedures, which are customized for each person's wants and needs. From home bleaching to accelerated in-office whitening, patients are enjoying whiter and brighter smiles achieved in a very short amount of time.

DENTAL BONDING
Composite resin bonding is used to repair fractures as well as to laminate (or cover) teeth to enhance appearance. These procedures are usually accomplished in one appointment and with little or no discomfort! We are proud to produce some of the most beautiful smiles in the country through our extensive experience.

GINGIVAL SCULPTING
Uneven gums can play tricks on a smile, like making teeth look slanted, or unusually large or unusually shaped. We can correct a "gummy smile" by sculpting them to better frame your teeth the way Mother-nature intended them to look.

TOOTH CONTOURING
This treatment is ideal for those who are happy with the color of their teeth, but don't like the exact shapes of their teeth because of small chips or slight crowding.

POST & CORE
Sometimes, due to decay, fractures, or a number of other reasons, a tooth may be damaged to the extent that the root is damaged and the portion of the teeth showing above the gum line is either not present or not sufficient to support a restoration like a crown on its own. That's where a post and core come in.
